Sunday Night Baseball betting action heads to Wrigley Field to wrap up this week, as the St. Louis Cardinals fight it out with their arch rivals, the Chicago Cubs

The Cards enter Friday night playing some fantastic baseball. They had won eight in a row before losing on Thursday and are now 1.5 games in front of the Cincinnati Reds for the top spot in the NL Central. They are also a game ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the Wild Card race, though they won't have that issue to worry about for as long as they keep the Reds in their rear view mirrors

The Cubs have basically packed it in this season. Earlier this week, manager Lou Piniella announced he was retiring at season's end. Chicago is 11 games out of first place and have far too many teams to hop in the Wild Card chase

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs

Game Date/Time: Sunday, July 25th, 8:05 ET
Game Location: Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL
TV/Radio Broadcast: ESPN, XM

RHP Chris Carpenter will go gunning for his 12th win of the season on Sunday night against the Cubs. For the season, the righty is 11-3 with a 3.05 ERA. He has only issued 39 walks all season long, and 118 strikeouts leaves him with a fantastic K/9 of 7.50

Carpenter has had two great starts in a row. He allowed just one run in eight innings of work against both the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers at home since the All-Star Break. He has also only issued one free pass in that stretch after giving up 18 in his previous six starts

Against the Cubs, Carpenter has been money in his career, going 10-3 with a 2.73 ERA. He already has two complete games, one of which was a shutout to his credit against Chicago

After seemingly being untouchable at the start of the season, the weight of being the only great starter on the Cubs is wearing on RHP Carlos Silva. Just over the L/2 starts, he has seen his ERA balloon from 2.96 to 3.86. In Los Angeles, he allowed six runs in just 1.1 innings of work. After the All-Star Break, he came out and allowed five runs in just 1.0+ innings

Chicago has now lost six of the L/7 times that its right hander was on the bump, and Silva has dropped to 9-4 on the season in that stretch

For his career, Silva is 2-1 against the Cards with a 0.79 ERA. He threw seven shutout frames and struck out 11 in a May 29th start at home against them

With Carpenter on the other side of the mound, there's no reason to believe that's changing any. Last season, the stud righty for the Cardinals didn't lose a single game in division, and he has already beaten the Cubbies once this year as well
